Abstract

1,064,354. Rotary fluid - actuated motors. SVENSKA ROTOR MASHINER A.B. Feb.24, 1965 [Feb.26, 1964], No.7947/65. Heading F1F. In a rotary motor of the meshing-screw type, which is actuated by a high-temperature gas, linings (22, 27, 28,36), Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), made of a ceramic material having a coefficient of thermal expansion not exceeding 3 x 10<SP>-6</SP> are lodged in a space (20) within a metallic casing 10 containing male and female screw-rotors (46, 48) and provided with inlet and outlet channels (34, 42) for the working fluid, insulating spaces (26, 38) being provided between said linings and the walls of said casing. The rotors are made of said material and attached to tubular shafts (54, 64) through which a cooling fluid flows from an inlet (84) to an outlet (86). Channels (14) for cooling fluid are also formed in the walls of said casing and connected to an inlet (16) and an outlet (18). The male rotor (48) is coupled to the load by a torsion bar (68). In a alternative embodiment, Figs.3 and 4 (not shown), the casing (110,112, 114) has a lining (126) made of said material which is applied by spraying, the rotors (134, 136) being also made of said material. A journal or stub shaft (164) for the male rotor (134) is lubricated by oil fed through a bore (166), an output shaft being attached to said rotor by splines (178). Synchronizing gears (150) are sprayed with oil ejected from a nozzle (152). A bush (154) forming a labyrinth seal for a shaft (140) attached to one end of the rotor (134) and a similar bush (170) for sealing the other end of the rotor are fed with compressed air through conduits (156), (172), respectively. Cooling fluid is circulated through conduits (118, 120) and passages (116) in the casing. The cooling fluid may be either a liquid or a gas e.g. air, which after leaving said passages is heated in a combustion chamber (not shown in the drawings) and then used as the working fluid. The rotors included in the embodiment according to Figs.1 and 2 may replace the rotors (134,136). Alternatively, the rotors in either embodiment may be made of metal and sprayed with said ceramic material.
