Abstract
1,061,417. Soot arrestors. GOODRID INCINERATOR CO. PTY. Ltd. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 26, 1963], No. 30424/64. Headings F4B and F4W. A liquid container, for use in the soot arrestor of an incinerator, is divided into main and auxiliary compartments 3, 4 by a weir wall 11, the auxiliary compartment having a sloping floor 10 and outlet 12; pipes 13, 14 pass below the floor 10 to the main compartment for supplying flush water to and for filling said compartment. The pipe 14 is connected to a cistern 16 having a ball-controlled valve 17 for maintaining the level of liquid in the main compartment at or adjacent the top of the weir wall, which is below the level of the walls of the container. Carbon and ash deposits are washed over the weir wall to the outlet 12, and sludge formed on the floor of the main compartment 3 is agitated by flush water supplied through pipe 13 and is washed over the weir wall. The tray is placed in a boot arrestor, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprising a casing (18) divided into two compartments (24) and (25) by a vertical partition (21). A second partition (26) extends horizontally above the partition (21) and curves down into the compartment (25). The liquid tray is positioned below the partition (26) in the compartment (25). An opening (29) is provided in the floor of the compartment (24) for the entry of gases from the incinerator (19). The gases enter the compartment (24), are deflected by the second partition (26) into the compartment (25) and leave the casing (18) via an opening (30) communicating with a chimney (20).
