Abstract
An aerosol composition for the diagnosis or treatment of allergies comprises an allergenic material in finely-divided form or in solution in an inert solvent together with an aerosol propellant. Specified propellants are the polyhalogenated lower aliphatic hydrocarbons, such as trichloromonofluoromethane, dichlorodifluoromethane, dichlorotetrafluoroethane, and trichlorotrifluoroethane, or mixtures thereof. Allergenic materials are defined as finely-divided air-borne particles of household dust and other substances which induce an allergy and which are derived from living organisms and have a cellular structure, including extracts from such substances. Examples of such materials include spores, pollens, and finely-divided hairs and feathers. A surface-active agent, e.g. sorbitan trioleate, lecithin, or cetyl pyridinium chloride and/or a finely-divided carrier substance, e.g. powdered lactose or sodium chloride may be included in the aerosol composition.ALSO:A pharmaceutical composition for the diagnosis or treatment of allergies comprises an allergenic material in finely-divided form or in solution in an inert solvent together with an aerosol propellant. Allergenic materials are defined as finely-divided air-borne particles of household dust and other substances which induce an allergy and which are derived from living organisms and have a cellular structure, including extracts from such substances. Examples of such materials include spores of fungi, moulds, yeasts or non-flowering plants fungi, moulds, yeasts or non-flowering plants including lichens, pollens of flowering plants and grasses, and finely-divided hairs, feathers, danders and dusts or powders containing spores, pollens, or other material derived from living organisms, as well as the extracts obtainable from the above materials. The allergenic material may be dispersed in the aerosol propellant with a surface-active agent, e.g. sorbitan trioleate, lecithin, or cetyl pyridinium chloride and/or a finely divided carrier substance, e.g. powdered lactose or sodium chloride. The pharmaceutical composition is inhaled.
