Abstract
1,045,356. Jet-propelled helicopter rotors. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. July 2. 1965 [July 9, 1964], No. 28458/64. Headings B7G and B7W. A helicopter rotor is propelled by a jet engine mounted on the tip of each blade, the installation being such that the thrust axes of the engines are maintained substantially in a common plane normal to the axis of the rotor shaft during pitch-changing movements of the blades. Each engine may be carried on its respective blade by a torsionally damped pivot or shaft and provided with an aerodynamic control vane to stabilize its position with respect to the blade. Alternatively, the control vane may be pivotable on the engine and connected to the blade by a control linkage, which may adjust jet-deflecting flaps.
