Abstract

1,043,580. Mould and core materials. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 29, 1964 [May 2, 1963], No. 17754/64. Headings B3F. [Also in Division B5] A method of manufacturing a casting mould comprises applying to a model a first coating layer of a jellifiable suspension of a fine-grained refractory power, e.g. zirconium silicate and a binder, e.g. a mixture of polyethyl silicate, water, hydrochloric acid, and ethanol, a coarser-grained refractory power, e.g. aluminium silicate, being applied, if desired, on the moist layer, which is then gelled, and applying jellifiable supporting layers to the first layer, e.g. of the same composition as that of the first layer, each supporting layer being gelled and the resulting mould dried, and the method is characterized in that at least the first supporting layer is gelled from the interior by means of a gelling agent. The latter may comprise a buffer solution, e.g. a solution of ammonium acetate or ammonium acetate and acetic acid.
