Abstract

1, 042, 944. Suppositories. T. J. SMITH & NEPHEW Ltd. March 6, 1964 [March 22,1963], No. 11456/63. Heading A5B. Suppositories, pessaries and dental cones comprise an outer casing of a water-soluble wax-like material with a heat softening point above 40‹C. enclosing a non-aqueous emollient-type base filling, into which are incorporated the required active ingredients. Suitable materials for the casing are "Carbowax" (Registered Trade Mark), polyethylene glycols, cetomacrogol, polyoxyethylene stearates and polyoxy-ethylene lauryl ethers into which may be incorporated medicaments for systemic absorption. They may be made by filling a mould with the molten casing material, removing the majority again before it has set, subsequently filling the hollow with the "core" material and sealing with a plug of the casing material (see Figs 1 and 3). Alternatively, the "core" may be preformed and coated by dipping or spraying.
