Abstract

The invention relates to a system for vertically twisting spinal rods in situ during an operation of the spine. The whole system works with two perfectly identical pieces that intersect, called for clarity (1,2). The piece comprises a handle in its upper part being taken in each hand, having at the bottom a recessed portion (3) so as to mate and cross with its identical and thus be able to use the tip (9) notched ( 4) apprehending the spinal rod (10) to bend it.

Description

The present invention relates to an instrument used in the operating theater during operations of the spine, in order to bend and preform the spinal rods vertically before the final blocking of the latter. Complementary is known the system filed May 27, 2011 under the number 11/01638 which aims to bend and preform the spinal rods horizontally and can not in any way substitute for this system. Traditional vertical benders are also known which can only be used nose-to-nose and which prevent from congestion efficient work over a short distance.

The present invention is characterized in that the instrument consists of two separate pieces held in each hand vertically. Both sleeves stand in the style of a "bolt cutter". The two pieces consist of an extended handle in the lower part of a curved part, recessed and smooth on its half to the end with a notch coming to pick the spinal rod in the operating field. The two bars are perfectly identical allowing, among other things, a simplicity and a shortcut in their manufacture. When the instrument composed of the two parts is in function, the two curves intersect and the ends each having a notch come to pick the spinal rod and handle both in one direction or the other depending on if we want the stem has a convex or hollow shape. The two recessed parts are smooth and allow sliding of the two instruments against each other while allowing a more or less significant deviation of the tips which aim to apprehend the spinal rod at locations determined by the surgeon. Thus, according to the spacing of said bits, it can access different curved or dug rays. During a spinal operation, the main purpose is the securing of the rod and the implant and this requires that the said rod is actually at the bottom of the implant and to be certain, just dig slightly above each implant and the locking system will be effective. The invention is described below according to a particular non-limiting embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 shows the profile piece - Figure 2 shows the front piece - Figure 3 the two pieces in function for a bending of the rod - Figure 4 the two parts in operation for a digging of the rod With reference to these drawings the entire device according to the invention is composed of two identical parts. FIG. 1 shows the configuration of parts (1,2) which are identical, having at the top part a handle (6) and at the bottom a curve (8) terminated by a short end (9) and parallel to the handle, provided with a notch (4,5) for apprehending the spinal rod (10). FIG. 2 shows the part (1,2) of face with the handle (7) and in its lower part a recessed part (3) on half of its width and terminated by a bit (9) having a notch (4) corresponding to the diameter of the spinal rod.

Dans ce cas, la pression des deux pièces (1,2) se faisant vers l'intérieur, la tige (10) subira un effet de bombage.FIG. 3 shows the two parts (1, 2) in function, crossing one another in the curved and smooth part (8) allowing a variable distance between the two parts acting on the spinal rod (10) through the end piece (9). having a notch (4). In this case, the pressure of the two parts (1,2) being inward, the rod (10) will undergo a bending effect.

Dans ce cas, la pression des deux pièces (1,2) se faisant vers l'extérieur, la tige (10) subira un creusage.FIG. 4 shows the two parts (1, 2) in function, crossing one another in the curved and smooth part (8) allowing a variable distance between the two parts acting on the spinal rod (10) through the end piece (9). having a notch (4). In this case, the pressure of the two parts (1,2) being outwardly, the rod (10) will undergo digging.
