Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a conical type joining system, in particular to ensure the joining of different parts of prostheses. Most femoral prostheses consist of a first module, called cupule, linked to the acetabular cavity and a second module, called femoral stem, linked to the femur. The connection between these two modules is made via a spherical element, which comes to take place in a cavity of the cup.
The structure of a femoral stem can be described arbitrarily as the succession of two parts: - The diaphyseal part, of substantially tubular shape, which is inserted inside the diaphysis of the femur. - The metaphyseal part, which comes to implant in the femoral metaphysis and which contains in its proximal part the location (named neck) on which will be placed the head of the prosthesis. There are several types of femoral stems. These include femoral stems consist of a single piece which gives them significant resistance to mechanical stresses. However this type of femoral stems is complex to produce. Moreover, the morphologies of the patients are variable and it is therefore necessary to produce as many sizes and shapes of prostheses as there are different morphologies. There are also femoral prostheses whose femoral stem consists of several modules that are assembled together before use.
Ce type de For example, US Pat. No. 5,725,592 describes a femoral stem composed of three distinct modules assembled into each other via conical junctions. This kind of
However, femoral prostheses are subject to many mechanical constraints. The presence of junctions in modular femoral prostheses makes them particularly sensitive to torsion, compression and flexion. This is particularly the case of conical junctions which, because of their structure, are particularly sensitive to torsion. The present invention proposes to provide a new conical junction system allowing in particular the realization of modular femoral rods having increased resistance to torsion. Thus, the present invention particularly relates to a junction system comprising a conical or frustoconical male junction means, a female junction means comprising a respectively conical or frustoconical cavity complementary to the male junction means remarkable in that said male junction means comprises a key, arranged parallel to the longitudinal axis of said male junction means and projecting beyond the distal end of said male member and that said conical or frustoconical cavity comprises in its inner wall a bore complementary to said key. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, said key also projects over all or part of the side wall of said male joining element.
In this preferred embodiment, the side wall of said conical or frustoconical cavity comprises a longitudinal flute complementary to said projection. The present invention also relates to a modular femoral prosthesis which is remarkable in that it comprises a

HRV002-FR-006 TEXTE REMOVAL SO / ML - 3 - joining system according to the invention. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, said connecting system connects the diaphyseal part to the metaphyseal part of the femoral stem.
La partie diaphysaire 7 comprend, en son extrémité Although particularly suited to the assembly of modular femoral rods, the joining system according to the invention is used for joining all types of parts. The example below shows a preferred and non-limiting embodiment of the invention, which will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: - Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section of a femoral prosthesis comprising a means of male junction according to the invention. FIG. 2 represents a longitudinal section of an embodiment of a male junction means according to the invention. - Figure 3 shows a cross section of an embodiment of a male junction means according to the invention. The metaphyseal portion 1 of the femoral stem comprises, from the distal end to the proximal end, the neck 2 on which the spherical head (not shown) is put in place, a tulip body and the frustoconical male junction means 3. . As detailed in FIG. 2, said male junction means 3 comprises a concentric wall in which a longitudinal bore 5 is located able to receive the key 6. As shown in FIG. 3, said bore 5 is placed so that once in place, the key 6 will project on a portion of the side wall of the male junction means. The diaphyseal portion 7 comprises, at its end

H RV002-FR-006 TEXTE REMOVAL SO / ML - 4 - proximal, a female junction means 8 consisting of a frustoconical cavity complementary to the male junction means 3. In addition, the cavity comprises a bore 9 adapted to receive the portion the key 6 protruding beyond the distal end of said male element 3 and a longitudinal trench 10 adapted to receive the portion of the key 6 protruding from the side wall of the male junction means 3.
The advantage provided by the presence of the key in the junction according to the invention is clearly understood: on the one hand, the relative positioning of the parts of the femoral stem and their interlocking at the junction is greatly facilitated, the key ensuring a guiding function at the same time in index and in angular orientation; It will thus be possible to obtain appropriate and predetermined prosthetic corrections as a function of the physiological anteversion angle of each patient. On the other hand, the key will block the relative rotational movements at the junction and will support a portion of the torsional forces, thereby improving the torsional strength of the joined elements. Moreover, if the application of the conical junction to the realization of modular femoral prostheses is particularly preferred, it is well understood that the conical junction according to the invention can be applied to other types of prostheses made in several parts. Finally, it goes without saying that the present invention is not limited to the preferred embodiment and to the implementation described, and that it can be modified or adapted according to particular needs or requirements, without as far out of the scope of the invention.
