En effet, notre alimentation aujourd'hui plus riche en graisses et sucres rapides qui sont à l'origine du grossissement, et moins riche en fibres sucres lents plus sains pour la santé. Ce déséquilibre peut s'expliquer par le fait que nous consacrons de moins en moins de temps à la cuisine et aux repas. Ainsi, nous mangeons vite et mal. Nous nous nourrissons de sandwichs et de hamburgers. Ce déséquilibre alimentaire s'accompagne souvent d'un manque de saveur des aliments. En effet, bien que la tendance actuelle soit le retour aux produits des terroirs, il demeure une grande proportion d'aliments et de plats industriels dont la saveur et le goût ne sont pas mis en valeur. A problèmes d'alimentation s'ajoute souvent un manque d'exercice physique. Cette tendance à l'inactivité se retrouve particulièrement chez les jeunes.
