Abstract

The packaging comprises a box (3) with a relatively low mechanical resistance and an insert in a mechanically resistant material extending over the box height. Lines of least resistance forming rupture lines are made on the box perimeter at intermediate levels between the box upper (6) and lower (7) parts to enable their separation. Access opening (5) are provided in the box walls.

Description

The present invention relates to a cardboard or material packaging

  plastic and relates more particularly to a cardboard packaging commonly used for the transport of goods such as bottles, flasks, cases of different shapes and sizes. Such packaging is generally made entirely of an expensive material because it has significant mechanical performance. Indeed, the dynamic and static constraints of the packaged product and its distribution circuit oblige the designer to reinforce the whole

  performance of its packaging. In addition, an additional difficulty appears at the time of printing since these materials of greater mechanical resistance are generally more difficult to print in direct flexography.

  In such thick cardboard packaging, it is usual to allow an exhibition of the goods contained in the packaging, without emptying it, to make cuts around the periphery of the packaging using a cutter to remove the 20 upper part of the packaging and thus expose the goods to the customer. Such an operation is relatively long to perform and the operator can cut himself or the goods inside the packaging. It is also known to make in two parts a

  cardboard packaging of the above type: an outer part of a relatively light and easy to print material for identification of the packaging, and an inner part of a mechanically resistant material and thus ensuring the mechanical resistance of whole package.

  However, this packaging still presents problems for its opening and the exposure of the products it

  contains within sight of potential buyers of these products.

  The invention solves the above problems by providing, in a cardboard or plastic packaging comprising, on the one hand, a box made of relatively little mechanically resistant material and, on the other hand, an insert of material more mechanically resistant extending over the entire height of the box and advantageously joined in a punctual manner to the latter by means of bonding of the glue point, welding or other type, so that the mechanical performance of the packaging is ensured by the cooperation of the body and the insert, the fact of providing lines of least resistance forming rupture lines formed on the periphery of the body at intermediate levels between the upper part and the lower part of the body to allow separate these parts. According to other advantageous features of the invention: - Access openings are provided in the walls of the box at the level of the lines of least resistance, providing a clear area behind these openings to be able to exert a force on the box of

  break along these lines of least resistance.

  - When the insert is behind the walls of the box at an access opening, these zones

  cleared constitute recesses in the insert.

  In Figure 1, there is shown a package generally designated by the reference 1 and which is externally similar to American boxes of traditional type but is produced according to the invention. Although the material 5 of the packaging is thus generally cardboard, it is not

  According to the invention, the cardboard packaging 1 15 comprises an outer box 3 whose side has been shown in the lower part of Figure 2 and an insert whose side has been shown in two parts 4a, 4b at the top of Figure 2 and which extends over the entire height of the

outer case.

  As can be seen in Figure 2, the sidewall to constitute the outer body 3 has the lines of least resistance 2 formed on the part of the sidewall to constitute the periphery of the body, and openings 5 are provided in certain places on the sides of the body 3 at the level of the lines of least resistance 2. These lines of least resistance divide the body into an upper part 6 and a lower part 7, the lines of less resistance 2 placed on the long sides of the body being here of generally oblique while the 30 lines of least resistance placed on the short sides are generally horizontal. It is however possible to provide any other arrangement of the lines of least resistance provided that all of these go around the body. Thus, the lines of least resistance 35 2 are preferably curved as shown in broken lines, but they can be straight as shown in 2a, or they can follow any particular profile and, for example, a logo such as that of the manufacturer of the products.

  According to the invention, the body 3 is made of a material which is relatively little mechanically resistant. In fact, the mechanical strength of the packaging is mainly ensured by the insert 4a, 4b which is joined to the upper part of the box by glue dots 8. However, other means of connection could be provided between the body 3 and the insert 4a, 4b, such as a stapling system, 10 or a welding means if the constituent elements of the body and the insert were made of a plastic material. The insert 4a, 4b of Figure 2 also has recesses 9 forming a clear area in front of the openings 15 5 of the box when the insert is behind the walls

  of the body at an access opening 5.

  It follows from the above that the mechanical performance of the packaging is ensured by the cooperation of the body 3 and the insert 4a, 4b. The mechanical resistance of the packaging 20 being in fact mainly ensured by the insert, it is

  important to realize it in a cardboard having a good mechanical resistance by choosing in an appropriate way the type of groove as well as the grammage and the type of paper.

  The outer case 3 must fulfill other functions of the packaging, such as identification, communication, machinability and other functions of use, and its side must be made of a thin cardboard to be easily printed. One can then use grooves as well as a grammage and a type of paper lighter than those of the inserts and therefore 30 cheaper.

  Having thus described the cardboard packaging according to the

  Figures 1 and 2, we will now indicate in conjunction with Figures 3 to 6 how is obtained the opening of the packaging according to the invention for the presentation of the objects it contains.

  Figure 3 shows the packaging 1 of Figure 1 supposedly filled with bottles of water that we seek to expose to customers in a department store for the sale of these bottles. In FIG. 4, an operator simultaneously introduces one or more of his fingers into the access opening 5 provided 5 symmetrically on the long sides of the packaging and crosses the recesses 9 of the insert. By exerting on the corresponding lines of least resistance 2 a combined movement of torsion-bending and traction according to arrow 10, which allows cutting with little effort along the line 10 of rupture, the operator can make an opening in the corresponding large side of the box without tearing it outside the lines of least resistance and leaving it intact

the underlying insert.

  In FIG. 5, the operator simultaneously introduces one or more of his fingers into the access opening 5 provided symmetrically on the short sides of the packaging but, in this embodiment, without encountering the insert 4a, 4b which is not present behind this access opening. By carrying out a movement similar to that described above but according to arrow 11, the operator can open the corresponding small side of the box without tearing it outside the lines of least resistance, obviously leaving it intact

  the underlying insert, where it is present.

  The above operations made it possible to separate the upper part 6 and the lower part 7 of the body

exterior 3.

  It is then possible according to FIG. 6 to lift the upper part 7 according to the arrows 12 at the same time as the insert 4a, 4b which is integral with it, then to completely remove this part according to the arrows 13 in FIG. 7. In this way and as seen in Figure 8, the

  bottles 14 contained in the lower part 7 of the box can be exposed to the view of the customers, this lower part forming a display for these bottles.

  As we saw above, the shapes of the lines of least resistance 2 can be straight, curved, or even follow a particular profile, for example, that of the logo of the supplier of the bottles, but it is important that such curves follow a logic of least resistance to obtain an easy opening of the box. Indeed, the 5 rounded pre-cut points, as shown, allow among other things to have, at the breaking points, a combined movement of torsionflexion and traction, well known in the steel industry, which allows a lifting with less effort exerted by the operator who must separate the upper part 6 of the box and the

  display that constitutes the lower part 7.

  We will now briefly describe, with reference to FIGS. 9 to 17, some embodiments of the insert 4 in which, however, the recesses 9 15 of FIG. 2 have not been shown when these must be present, this is at

  tell when an insert is behind an opening 5.

  In Figures 9 and 10, the insert comprises two U-shaped parts 4a, 4b (Figure 9) or 20a, 20b (Figure 10) intended to be arranged on the inner face of two opposite sides of the body and whose portions more short and which constitute the branch of U are applied against the faces of the adjacent sides. In this way, in Figure 9, the insert 4a, 4b of the previous figures is formed of two lateral U-shaped parts 25 intended to be covered by the long sides of the

  body and partly the short sides of it.

  Similarly, in Figure 10, the insert 20a, 20b is formed of

  two lateral U-shaped parts intended to be covered by the short sides of the box and partly the long sides 30 of the latter.

  In Figure 11, the insert referenced 21a, 21b, 21c, 21d is formed by four angular parts intended respectively to be joined to the interior part of the box at the corners

of it.

  In Figures 12 to 14, the insert 22 (Figure 12), the insert 23 (Figure 13) and the insert 24a, 24b (Figure 14) have a generally rectangular shape made in one part (Figures 12 and 13) or in two parts (Figure 14), open at the top and bottom and intended to cover the internal faces of the side walls of the body. However, as shown in Figure 12, the insert 22 has, in one of its walls, 5 a recess extending over its entire height. Although this has not been shown, this insert could present in several of its walls such a recess extending by

  example over at least part of its height.

  In this way, the insert 22 of Figure 12 is formed in one piece intended to be completely covered by one of the long sides of the box and its two short sides and, in part, by the other long side. Similarly, in Figure 13, the insert 23 is also formed in one piece intended to be covered by all of the sides of the box. Finally, 15 in Figure 14, the insert 24a, 24b is formed of two L-shaped side parts also intended to be covered by

  all sides of the body.

  In Figure 15, the insert 25 is U-shaped with cut sides. Thus, the insert 25 is here formed in one piece 20 so as not to be covered by the corners of the body, by delimiting cut sections 26 which increase the mechanical resistance of the whole of the insert and allow

  better calibration of the products contained in the packaging.

  In Figures 16 and 17, the insert 27 (Figure 16) and the insert 25 (Figure 17) are U-shaped, the base 29, 31 is intended to extend substantially parallel to the

  bottom of the box, at the top or bottom of the box.

  Thus, the insert 27 is formed in a single piece having lateral parts 28a, 28b and an upper part 30 forming the base 29 of the U, the assembly being intended

  to be covered by the short sides of the box and its top. Likewise, the insert 30 of FIG. 17 is similar to the insert 20a, 20b of FIG. 10, but also comprises a bottom part forming the base 31 of the U and intended to be covered by the underside of the checkout.

  In the embodiment of the insert 29 of Figure 17, however and unlike the case of the inserts of Figures 9 to 16, the means for connecting the insert to the body are not provided at the top of the body (as at 8 in Figure 2), but at the bottom of it. Thus, the lines of least resistance 2 formed in the box 3 5 of Figure 1 at the same time allow easy opening

  of this box and a withdrawal of the upper part 6 while maintaining the insert 29 integral with the lower part 7 of the box, thereby producing another type of display.

  The invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments shown and described in detail since various modifications

  can be made without departing from its scope.

Claims (18)

  1. A cardboard or plastic packaging (1), 5 comprising, on the one hand, a box (3) made of relatively little mechanically resistant material and, on the other hand, an insert (4a, 4b) of more mechanically resistant material extending over the entire height of the body (3) and advantageously joined in a punctual manner to the latter by means of connection (8) of the glue point, welding or other type, so that the mechanical performance of the packaging is ensured by the cooperation of the box (3) and the insert (4a, 4b), characterized in that lines of less resistance 15 (2) forming breaking lines are formed around the periphery of the box ( 3) at intermediate levels between the upper part (6) and the lower part   (7) of the body to allow separation of these parts.   2. Packaging according to claim 1, characterized in that access openings (5) are provided in the walls of the box (3) at the lines of least resistance (2), providing a clear area (9) behind these openings to be able to exert a breaking force on the body along these lines of less resistance.   3. Packaging according to claim 2, characterized in that the insert (4a, 4b) located behind the walls of the box (3) at an access opening (5), these open areas constituting recesses (9) in the insert (4a, 4b).   4. Packaging according to one of claims 1 to 3, 35 characterized in that the connecting means (8) of   the insert (4a, 4b) at the box (3) are provided in the part upper (6) of the body.   5. Packaging according to one of claims 1 to   11, characterized in that the insert (4a, 4b; 20a, 20b) comprises two U-shaped parts arranged on the inner face of two opposite sides of the body and the portions of which constitute the branches of the U are applied   against the faces of the adjacent sides.   13. Packaging according to one of claims 1 to   11, characterized in that the insert (21a, 21b, 21c, 21d) is formed by four angular parts respectively   joined to the body at the corners thereof.   14. Packaging according to one of claims 1 to   11, characterized in that the insert (22; 23; 24a, 24b) has a generally rectangular shape made in one or in two parts, open at the top and at the bottom and covering the internal faces of the side walls of the box.   15. Packaging according to claim 14,   characterized in that the insert (22) has, in at least one of these walls, a recess extending over at least part of its height.   16. Packaging according to one of claims 1 to   11, characterized in that the insert (25) is U-shaped with cut sides (26).   17. Packaging according to one of claims 1 to   11, characterized in that the insert (27, 30) is U-shaped, the base (29, 31) of which extends substantially parallel to the bottom of the body, at the top or 30 at the bottom thereof. .   18. Packaging according to one of claims 1 to   17, characterized in that the box (3) gives the packaging the functions of identification, communication, machinability and other functions of use.
