Abstract

A natural gas liquefaction process involves (a) cooling the natural gas at greater than or equal to the critical pressure of methane to obtain a dense phase; and (b) expanding and liquefying a fraction of this dense phase by passage through a device which reduces the gas pressure by expansion with mechanical energy supply, the passage from the dense phase state to the liq. phase state occurring without phase transition. Also claimed is an appts. for carrying out the above process.
