Abstract

Drive belt consists of a continuous loop of a core material -pref. a rubber or plastics - carrying a series of riders. The core is rectangular in cross-section and the exterior section of the riders is trapezoidal. At least one of the interior or exterior faces of the core loop has at least one pref. continuous rib which fits into a groove in the riders. In further detail the trapezoidal drive belt fits into a pulley with conical sides. The belt consists of riders on a core which has a cross-section essentially rectangular, flattened in the transverse direction, and an interior and an exterior face in contact with the riders, and two edges, symmetrical about the median of the pulley. Used esp. in systems where the speed is varied by the spacing of pulleys with conical flanges. Wear of the sides of the core is minimised because the sideways movement of the core inside the riders is avoided. Friction and noise are reduced.
