Description

RIGID PLASTIC FLOOR COVERING TILES,
DECORATED AND RELIEF
The present invention relates to rigid plastic floor tiles, decorated and embossed.

Plastic floor coverings are most often sold in the form of large rolls, up to four meters; it has often been sought to cut these floor coverings and in particular those of the "expanded expanded vinyl" type in the form of slabs of dimensions corresponding to the drawing most often printed on the covering which, joined to a certain relief which is communicated to the drawing during manufacture, aims to imitate (or even replace) tiles, paving or parquet; it would thus be possible to have products which are easier to apply and which have a much lower percentage of falls or waste. This mode of presentation proves to be particularly interesting during retail sales to individuals wishing to carry out the laying of their flooring themselves.

However, the slabs produced so far are not entirely satisfactory; they are in general far too flexible, not very "leady" and go far too far from the image that the consumer or the applicator of a slab product have of themselves, which must, in a certain sense, recall tiling, paving or parquet floors that he wants to imitate.

The present invention has endeavored to provide a solution to this problem by proposing tiles for floor coverings, and in particular for decorated and raised floor coverings which have good rigidity while retaining perfect flatness of the surface intended for be in contact with the ground.

Thus the slabs according to the invention consist, in a manner known per se, of a transparent wear layer, covering a printed design possibly associated with a raised layer based on foam and a sub-layer. mat-based layer of fibers bound by a binder and embedded in a layer of plasticized and filled polyvinyl chloride and their originality consists in that they also comprise a second reinforcement of fibers embedded in an additional layer of polyvinyl chloride tightly integral with said sub-layer.

We thus have a very rigid, very flat product, the presentation of which in tiles is completely flattering.

- Figure 1 est une vue en coupe d'une partie d'un revêtement selon la technique antérieure;
The present invention will be better understood moreover and its advantages will emerge clearly from the description which follows with reference to the appended schematic drawing in which:
- Figure 1 is a sectional view of part of a coating according to the prior art;
- Figure 2 is a sectional view of a slab according to the invention.

In the figures, (1) generally designates the slab, (2) the wear layer, (3) the design associated with a raised foam layer (4), (5) the PVC undercoat of the coverings. of expanded classic relief soil.

- une couche de mousse (4) dont le taux de moussage (ou expansion) variable suivant le motif confère au matériau un relief correspondant au dessin, ce taux de moussage différencié pouvant avantageusement être obtenu par le procédé dit du "grainage chimique";
The conventional raised expanded flooring, shown in FIG. 1, comprises the following components:
- a transparent wear layer (2)
- a printed design (3),
- A layer of foam (4) whose variable foaming rate (or expansion) depending on the pattern gives the material a relief corresponding to the design, this differentiated foaming rate can advantageously be obtained by the process known as "chemical graining";
- a sublayer most often consisting of a mat (6) of glass fibers linked by an appropriate binder (formo-phenolic, acrylic, vinyl acrylic, etc.), said glass mat (6) constituting this which is generally called reinforcement, embedded in a layer of charged plasticized PVC (5).

The product obtained is very flexible. Its stiffness, measured using the STIFFNESS TABER TESTER device, is in the TABER unit
STIFFNESS, at values ranging from 15,000 to 30,000 ... Its cutting into slabs, which has sometimes been experimented, leads to products that are not very flattering and difficult to use.

The slabs according to the invention are obtained from a floor covering of this type which comprises, in addition, a second reinforcement obtained, in general, from glass fiber mats (8) embedded in a layer of PVC (7) and closely connected to the floor covering described above.

We then obtain, due to the double reinforcement and by adapting
suitably laminating the different layers of PVC, a
very rigid, very flat product whose presentation in tiles becomes
completely flattering. Measured with the TABER device, the rigidity of
this product reaches values up to 140,000, almost five times that of the starting product.

The process for obtaining slabs according to the invention will now be described briefly; it is implemented on a conventional coating line and comprises the following stages
- 1 / a mat of glass fibers of 50 g / m2, chosen from Microlith glass sails, sold by the CLASWERK company
SCHULLER GmbH in Germany and made up of glass fibers linked by a urea-formaldehyde resin, with a binder content between 15 and 23%, is impregnated with approximately 500 g per m2 of charged vinyl plastisol. The formula of this plastisol is of the following type: (expressed in% of resin)
. PVC MICROSUSPENSION, K value: 78-80 ..................... 75
. PVC "EXTENDER", K value: 57 ................................... 25
.DI OCTYL PHTALATE ............................................. 35 at 50
(or also other phthalates in C7 - C8 - C9 - ClO-
C11 as commonly used in processing
PVC)
. BARIUM-ZINC STABILIZER ........................................ 2. CALCIUM CARBONATE ......... 50 to 100
(average particle diameter 15 microns)
.TITANIUM DIOXIDE............................................. .... 2
This plastisol is applied using a doctor blade and it is immediately gelled in contact with a large diameter drum heated to around 1500C.
- 2 / after i - cooling, a vinyl plastisol, for example 250 g / m2, is coated, which is pre-gelified in contact with a tarnbour heated to around 150 ° C., then in an oven at temperatures not exceeding 1700C. The formula of this expandable plastisol is of the following type i In% resin
. PVC EMULSION, K value: 68 ..................................... 40
. PVC MICROSUSPENSION, K value: 70 ....................... 40
.PVC "EXTENDER", K value: 65 ....................................... 20
. DI OCTYL PHTALATE (or similar) ................................ 40 to 50
. DODECYL BENZENE ................................................ .... 5
. AZODICARBONAMIDE ................................................. 1.7
. ZINC OXIDE............................................... .......... 0.85
Dl TITANIUM OXIDE .............................................. ..3
. CALCIUM CARBONATE ....................................... 20 to 40
- 3 / the undercoat thus obtained is printed in the chosen design, in multi-color gravure printing, using printing inks one or more of which may contain an expansion inhibitor
- 4 / then carried out for example using the device called "Reverse Roll Coater" coating (for example 250 g / m2) of a transparent plastisol constituting the wear layer of the product.

. PVC MICROSUSPENSION, Valeur K : 78 à 80.................75 - 100
. PVC "EXTENDER", Valeur K : 65 25 - 0
. BUTYL BENZYL PHTALATE 30 - 25

. STABILISANT BARYUM ZINC.................................................... .3
AGENT DE DESAERATION 0,2
.ABSORBEUR UV............................................................0,2
Cette opération est suivie d'une gélification ét d'une expansion dans un four aux environs de 200"C ;
This plastisol can have the following formula: (In% resin)
. PVC MICROSUSPENSION, K value: 78 to 80 ................. 75 - 100
. PVC "EXTENDER", K value: 65 25 - 0
. BUTYL BENZYL PHTALATE 30 - 25
TEXANOL ISOBUTYRATE 0 - 7
. DODECYL BENZENE ................................................ ....... 7 to 12
EPOXY STEARATE D'OCTYLE 4
. BARYUM ZINC STABILIZER ............................................... ..... .3
DEAERATION AGENT 0.2
UV ABSORBER ............................................... ............. 0.2
This is followed by gelling and expansion in an oven around 200 "C;
- 5 / A coating is carried out, preferably using a doctor blade, on the reverse side of the product, of a compact plastisol (for example of 500 g / m2) in which a glass fiber mat is drowned. This second glass fiber mat can be either of the same type as the first, or selected to give the product greater rigidity (the parameters on which we can act being the length and diameter of the glass fibers, the percentage and the nature of the binder in particular).

Les plastisols dans lesquels est noyé ce second mat de fibres de verre correspondent à des formules du type de celles indiquées dans la première étape du procédé. On peut si besoin renforcer la rigidité en remplaçant tout ou partie du plastifiant dioctylphatlate par un plastifiant réactif tel que le diallylphtalate. On effectue la gélification au contact d'un tambour chauffé et on termine l'opération par passage dans un four à environ 175 C ;
The plastisols in which this second glass fiber mat is embedded correspond to formulas of the type indicated in the first step of the process. If necessary, the stiffness can be increased by replacing all or part of the dioctylphatlate plasticizer with a reactive plasticizer such as diallylphthalate. Gelation is carried out in contact with a heated drum and the operation is completed by passing through an oven at about 175 ° C .;
- 6 / The tiles are then cut, in a conventional manner, in relation to the printed design. They can receive upside down a hot coating of a "hot melt" so as to obtain self-adhesive tiles, particularly appreciated in the market for ready-to-install tiles.

It is understood that the present invention, more particularly described for tiles of the family of expanded vinyl coverings in relief, is not limited to this type of coating, but that it relates to all the cases where it is sought to obtain tiles. , sufficiently rigid and perfectly flat plates or panels.
