Abstract

Process for the production of decabromodiphenyl ether by bromination of diphenyl ether in a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent, followed by separation from the reaction mixture and purification of decabromodiphenyl ether, consists in introducing the liquid reaction slurry containing decabromodiphenyl ether into hot water to remove the halogenated hydrocarbon solvent by entrainment with steam, and in pulverising the decabromodiphenyl ether to provide fine powders with a mean particle diameter not exceeding 10 mu .
