Abstract
Glass, ceramic and similar articles are mfd. by pressing by (a) preparing a powder with a low moisture content by drying a slurry; (b) introducing the powder into a suitable die (c) pressing, (d) releasing the pressure and (e) demoulding. Specifically the powder is introduced into the moulding die while imparting a (continuous) rotary motion to the die. The compression is esp. isostatic over at least part of the powder, esp. the convexly curved side of the mould. Used for mfr. of articles of pottery in glass, glassceramic, ceramics, esp. porcelain, stoneware, earthenware etc. The prods. are mechanically stronger and better finished.
