Abstract

Partial treatment of an effluent is effected in a biological purificn. station which produces a sludge contg. suitable microorganisms; the treatment is completed as the effluent progresses along the outlet channel which may be of a considerable length. The effluent channel has an inlet at its upstream end and an outlet at its downstream end. A portion of the effluent is diverted, through the pipe by the pump, into the purificn. station. This delivers a treated effluent through a pipe and a biological sludge contg. microorganisms, produced by the sludge itself, through a further pipe; it is injected into the liq. flowing through the outlet channel and is discharged in the completely treated state. The effluent may be treated in a comparatively small station with all the resulting economies; the micro-organisms produced from the effluent itself are partic. adapted for the treatment.
