Abstract

The knife or similar implement has a blade (2) which retracts by pivoting for the cutting edge to house in a handle groove (1a), and has a push-botton (S1) operated locking mechanism which holds the blade (2) in position. The push-button (51) projects through an opening (1d) in the handle and is incorporated on a recoil sprung lever. The lever is housed in the handle (1) by the side of the heel of the blade (2) and is fixed by the axle (4) which constitutes the fulcrum of the blade. The axle (4) passes through a tapered hole (5c) at an obtuse corner formed by two inclined faces (5a, 5b) of the lever. The leading face (5a) bears on a major face of the blade (2) and the lever, thus, rocks about the corner when depressed. A stud (5c) on the end of the lever engages a hole (2b) or a slot (2c) in the blade to lock it in aligned or normal relationships with the handle respectively.
