Abstract

The hook (1) has a body (2) and a jaw (3) forming a parallel opening (4) into which fits a link (8a) of the chain (8). The link slides in sideways so that the adjacent link (8b) is at right angles to the hook and prevents the chain slipping when a load is applied to the other end.(8c). A safety catch (9) pivots about an axis (10) which positioned so that any upward movement of the chain link (8a) has very little turning moment about the axis. In addition the safety catch pivots on a split bushing which tends to maintain the safety catch in position.
