Abstract

The spark ignition engine has a main combustion chamber and a turbulence generating chamber. The crown face of the piston (1) has two channels (4, 5) whose curvature is orientated in the same direction. The cavity in the piston forms a channel (3) which imposes a specified rotation direction on the gases in the chamber. The channels have a U or V cross section, and their flanks are either straight or curved.
