Abstract

The automobile wheel comprises a rim (3) and a diaphragm (2) with integral hub (2). The rim is fixed to the diaphragm by radial nuts (5) and bolts (3) and the two parts are, thus, individually replaceable. The rim (3) is made by deforming a length of cylindrical tube. The rim may be of a step walled 'U' profile when sectioned parallel to the wheel axis, and is formed by expansive deformation of the edges of the base cylinder. The internal dia. of the base cylinder is equal to the least dia. (j1) of the finished rim. The base cylinder may be formed by bending and welding a rectangular metal strip or may be cut from a longer tube. The bolt holes may be located by using the diaphragm (2) as a template and the bolts may include sealing washers (4).
