Abstract

A method of hermetically enclosing a quantity of liquid in a gas-free space inside a thermoplastics package is as follows: a long tube, closed at one end, is filled with pressurised liquid and the opposite facing walls of the tube are then pressed together at some distance below the bottom, closed end of the tube; all the liquid is expelled from this region of contact, and then the walls are hot-sealed together in this region. Pref. the hot-sealing temperature exceeds the boiling temperature of the liquid, the latter being prevented from boiling by keeping it away from the heated region. Pref. also, this sealed length of tube is cut from the length above before the clamping action is released from its walls. Esp. for products intended for cleaning, odorising, deodorising or pest control, where the substance is to be used in liquid rather than solid or paste form and is to be allowed to permeate slowly over a long period time into the atmosphere.
