Abstract

System for coating a workpiece with a layer of particles, the novelty being the use of (a) a device including a chamber for the prodn. of hot gases, the chamber possessing an open outlet for driving the hot gases against the workpiece; (b) a rectangular strip contg. in its interior a predetermined amt. of the particles per unit of length of the strip; (c) a sepn. device used to separate the particles from the strip and to inject them pneumatically into the hot gases in the chamber, in which the particles are heated and accelerated by the gases travelling through the outlet so that the particles are forced against the surface of the workpiece. The system is used for the continuous, pulsed-detonation coating of a substrate with particles such as tungsten carbide.
