Abstract

The cap forming a vacuum seal on a container, has a base (2) connected to a skirt (3) by a plane portion (2a). An annular groove is formed between rib portions (2b, 2c) and finally there is a central plane portion (2d). The cap has a rim (4). A seal (8) of plastics material within the portions (2a, 3) seals the cap on the neck (10a) of the container (10). A weakend zone of incision (5) is between the plane and rib portions. Depression of the adjacent rib portion tears the cap, releasing the vacuum and enabling the cap to be removed.
