Abstract
In prepn. of catalyst for polymsn. of C2H4 or copolymsn. of C2H4 with alpha-olefins, by reacting Al alkyls with transition metal cpds. in satd. aliphatic, satd. alicyclic and/or aromatic hydrocarbons at 0-100 degrees C, the novel reactant system comprises R12 AlR11 (I) (where R1 and R11 are 2-8C. alkyl or R11 may also be H), VO(OR)3 (II) (where R is 2-18C alkyl) and TiCl4 (III), with mole ratios, (I): ((II) + (III)) of 3-50:1 and (III):(II) of 0.2-5:1. Catalyst is effective under rel. mild conditions, gives high yields, is sol. in the above solvents (which can be used as polymsn. solvents) and can be prepd. in a single step.
