Abstract

Air is drawn through the envelope of the filter-tip and this reduces the quantity of harmful prods. inhaled by the smoker. The filter elements are surrounded by paper which is provided with lines of microscopic perforations, placed very close together. The number and the dimensions of the perforations are arranged so as to attain the high level of porosity required. The perforation is effected by an electric discharge before the paper is formed into the sheath and the sleeve, which joins it to the cigarette. There are 275 holes per cm2 and the spacing between rows is 1 mm. The filter-tips are assembled in the conventional manner, two cigarettes being fixed at each end of a double length filter-tip; the latter is then cut in the middle through a non-stuck area. The ventilated filter-tip has improved retention properties for the harmful condensated from the tobacco; at the same time the taste and aroma are preserved.
