Abstract

The equipment comprises a smooth or rifled tube for the projectile (12) behind which gunpowder (14) is placed. Behind this in turn is placed braking propellant (16), which can be provided with ballas (18), the latter typically in the form of grains of sand. The braking propellant can be connected to the projectile by a ring accommodating the gunpowder, the three together forming a rigid assembly which is loaded into the tube. A sealing membrane to the rear of the braking propellant holds the ballast in place before firing. The ballast is released when the membrane ruptures, and is subjected to negative acceleration.
