Abstract

The gas spring cylinder (9) contains a piston with its rod (13) passing through one end, the rod articulating on the seat pivot and the other end of the cylinder being attached to the seat. The piston carries a sliding seal (10) loosely mounted between its upper (11) and lower (12) faces. When the seat is pulled down, the seal is held against the lower piston face (12) and liquid (16) in the lower chamber passes freely through holes (14) and around the seal. When released, gas pressure reaction (17) in the upper chamber forces the seal against the upper piston face and the liquid (15) returns through a metering orifice.
