Abstract
Fuel flows from the float chamber (5) to a jet (3) in the throat of a restricted orifice (2a) in the main air passage. A passage (8) connects the air space of the float chamber with atmospheric pressure at the carburetor inlet and a further passage (7) connects the air space of the float chamber with the throat of the venturi where there is a reduced pressure. A solenoid operated valve (10) in the first passage is controlled through an appropriate electric circuit (13) from a detector (11) in the engine exhaust (12) which responds to constituents which depend on the richness of the fuel mixture. When the valve closes it reduces the pressure in the float chamber and reduces the flow of fuel for a given flow of air.
