Abstract

Process for varnishing the bore of a very long Al or Al-alloy tube with a small dia. by passing varnish through the tube. The novelty is that, after injecting the varnish by a pump into the bore of the tube, the thickness of the coating is controlled and the excess varnish removed by the forced circulation in the bore of a plunger fitted with flexible or semi-rigid elements which are in contact with the varnish; the light solvents are then removed by passing compressed air downt he tube which is subsequently placed in an oven and hto-air pulled through the tube by suction to remove the rest of the solvents for recovery or disposal. The plunger is pref. a threaded rod on which flexible rings, e.g. of plastic are mounted; alternatively, a felt plunger can be used. Coating tubes 5-30 mm borer and several hundred metres long, e.g. for hot water radiators or compressed-air pipes, where the coating prevents corrosion. A uniform coating is obtd. over the entire bore without added cost w.r.t. known methods.
