Abstract
The engine is housed in a cylindrical casing (1) with end walls supporting bearings for the shaft (2). The shaft (2) has two inclined eccentric bosses (3) and (4) which carry ball bearings (7), the outer races of which fit in recesses (10) in the swash-plates (8). Each swash-plate has four equally spaced and integrally formed pistons (9). The pistons (9) are provided with piston rings (14), of which the outer surfaces form part of a sphere. As the shaft (2) rotates the pistons (9) oscillate in the cylinders enclosed within the walls (11) and (12). This method of constructing a reciprocating engine can be applied to compressors, steam engines or internal combustion engines.
