Abstract

The syringe comprises a plastic cylindrical body; one end is closed except for a central hole in which there is a needle-fixing device. The piston consists of a plastic cylinder which is surrounded by a sealing joint. A metallic piston rod is fitted with a handle to facilitate its operation. The upper part of the body is threaded to receive a plastic plug, the central hole of which acts as a guide for the piston rod; the plug also has two lateral extensions to act as finger grips, while the thumb acts on the handle during the course of an injection. The plastic syringe can be used a number of times because high temp. sterilisation does not affect its reliability. An additional advantage is that the plug acts as a stop for the piston during the filling operation.
