Abstract

A process for the continuous treatment of effluents from cattle rearing units comprises coarse filtering the effluent, subjecting the filtrate to coagulation/flocculation, filtering suspended matter under pressure, concentrating the filtrate by evapn. and deodorising the distillates and gases evolved. Large volumes of effluent contg. higher concns. of organic matter than those from domestic sources may be safely treated. The process yields material useful as fertilizer and 80% of the water used to wash the floors of the units may be recovered and reused.
