Abstract

Title cpds. of formula (I) (where X is H, halogen (8 or 9-position) or alkoxy R1 is phenyl opt. substd. by p-halogen, p-alkyl, o- or p-alkoxy, naphthyl 2-furyl or 2-thienyl and R2 is H or alkyl) are prepd. from a 2-nitroaniline by addition of an acylonitrile, hydrolysis to form the acid, reduction of the nitro gp. cyclisation to form the benzodiazepinone, reaction with P4S10 to form the thione and rection with a benzoylhydrazine. Pref. (I X = 9-Cl, R1 = Ph and R2 = Me) is prepd. from 4-chloro-2-nitro aniline by reaction with methacrylonitrile then proceeding as above.
