Abstract
Die for extrusion of crystalline materials such as sodium sulphate by radial extrusion between a stack of annular die plates and opt. spacers where one or both faces of each die plate is grooved with the profile or half profile of one of the required extrudate cross-sections. Particular reference to producing diced particles of extruded sodium sulphate for incorporation into blocks of regenerated cellulose to make synthetic sponges by subsequent aqueous leaching of the soluble sulphate. Much easier to produce a variety of profiles by machining surface channels than by boring to better reproduce the pore size distribution found in natural sponges.
