Abstract

A flexible sealing element is secured in a peripheral recess of a former by a retaining plate secured to the bottom of the former. With a pref. rubber insole maintained e.g. by adhesive on the retaining plate, and a shoe (e.g. sandal) upper supported on the former with its edges extending under the insole, the former is located in the mouth of a mould defining a moulding cavity in which the sole is pref. injection moulded. The former is a press fit into the mouth of the mould and the flexible sealing element co-operates with a flange around the mouth to seal the moulding cavity. The former can be quickly positioned in and removed from the mould.
