Abstract
Ingot of Ti alloy with 2-phase alpha + beta structure contg. >=30% beta-phase is shaped to annular forgings for use under high stress, esp. sliding shroud band rings of turbine generators working with >=500 MW, by repeated deformation in axial, radial and tangential direction, e.g. drawing, upsetting, punching and rolling. Total degree of formation in each of these directions is >=60% of total deformation. Direction of deformation is changed each time and degree of deformation is >=40% on last forging. Heating temp. is gradually lowered from first forging temp. which is 50-80 degrees C above phase transition temp. (T) of alloy from beta to alpha + beta structure, to a temp. which is 20-30 degrees C below (T) in last forging step. After completing plastic deformation, the blank is annealed at a temp. below (T).
