Abstract

Pure ethyl p-iodophenoxyisobutyrate (I) (b.pt. 155-165 degrees C/3 mm, n26D 1.5470, m.pt. (capillary) 30-34 degrees C) is prepd. by reacting acetone and chloroform with p-iodophenol to give p-iodophenoxyisobutyric acid (II), esterifying (II) with EtOH to give (I), and distilling the reaction product : (I) has hypolipaemic activity and in humans lowers total blood lipoprotein more than other known antiarteriosclerotic agents.
