Abstract

Process is intended for obtaining a potable water from polluted water or from sea-water. The water is purified by using the latent heat of vaporisation, recovered during the condensation of the potable water, for the evapn. of a portion of the non-potable water. The only source of energy is the compressor which raises both the press, and the temp. of the heat-carrying liq., which is air charged to a greater or lesser extent, with vapour. The appts., designed partic for domestic purposes consists of three walls, bolted together around their peripheries, which form a high press. and a low press chamber. The current of air is brought into contact with the surface of the non-potable water circulating in the low press. compartment and is then compressed; it comes into contact with the lower side of the middle wall so that the steam condenses. The heat given up is transmitted to the non-potable water through the middle wall; the air is then expanded before completing a fresh circuit. Trace elements are added to the chemically pure condensed water to render it potable.
