Abstract

Dehydrated or desolvated pharmaceutical compns., capable of regaining their original form on addition of solvent or of dissolving rapidly and completely in water, and having improved mechanical resistance and slow moisture uptake, are obtained by adding to the original material(I) a lyophilisation adjuvant selected from (a) colloids or polysaccharides and high mol. wt. polymers capable of forming colloidal solns., esp. gum arabic, alginates, pectinates, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyethylene glycols, carboxymethyl cellulose, (b) soluble, crystallisable, edible ballats, opt. dehydrating, esp. lactose, glycine, mannitol, sorbitol, glucose, saccharose, in the presence of a small amount of water, and lyophilising the paste obtained. Specif. (I) is acidic arginine aspartate, or an aqs. soln. of liver extract or vitamin C.
