Abstract

Appts. giving protection against nuclear, thermal, or radar radiation, comprising successive plates of different material, if necessary spaced apart, and formed of plastic contg. fillers, and more especially being reinforced in known manner with glass fibres, the fillers being such that continuous destruction or retardation of the radiation passing outwards, is secured, while the first plate contains a maximum of 30% of inorganic fillers, e.g. compounds of W, Th, Fe, Ba etc, with at least 2% rare earths, and the second plate contains about 20% of fillers used in the first plate together with boron, and carbon, so that the total proportion of slow neutron-absorbent fillers can be 10%.
