871,040. Tanks. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Dec. 16, 1959 [Dec. 18, 1958], No. 42773/59. Class 69 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] A tank for the storage of volatile liquids at or above the ambient pressure in which the roof 7 is a domed structure comprising a number of curved steel trusses 5, bolted to support members 2, themselves welded to the cylindrical tank wall 1. The radius of the trusses 5 varies continuously, being at least equal to half the radius of the tank at their lowest point and increasing to nearly infinity at their connection with the ring 6, forming an annulus 9 in the tank roof through which the tank may be emptied and filled. The trusses. are interconnected by cross-beams 8 and support the metal sheets which are welded together to form the tank roof 7.
