Abstract
The invention relates to a process for the production of ammonia synthesis gas from feed gases containing hydrogen and nitrogen, by producing or generating nitrogen and hydrogen and combining them to give the synthesis gas with the ratio H2/N2 = 3:1. In order to reduce expenditure on plant, to improve the quality of the synthesis gas and to increase plant performance, the invention essentially provides the separation of the hydrogen from the hydrogen-containing feed gas by means of pressure swing adsorption (PSA), the separation of the nitrogen, preferably together with hydrogen, from the nitrogen-containing feed gas by means of pressure swing adsorption, and the combination of the hydrogen and nitrogen fractions thus separated to give the synthesis gas.
