Abstract
An emergency cooling system for a nuclear reactor, consisting of a pressure vessel or container having a closure head secured to it, in a watertight relationship and including coolant supply and discharge lines for circulating coolant through of a core contained in the container, said core comprising upper and lower core plates having multiple fuel assemblies arranged between them that generate heat when they undergo a fission process, and emergency refrigerant inlet pipes connected at one end to the reactor and at its other end to a source of emergency coolant placed under high pressure, characterized in that said inlet pipes are connected to coolant distribution means mounted on said core and that have at least one outlet practiced therein for spraying or spraying the high pressure coolant in said core and against the fuel elements contained in the aforementioned fuel assemblies to extract heat from the fuel elements.
