Abstract

The internal elements, based on alternating positive and negative electrodes, are subdivided into two electrically independent groups, which are connected together in series, based on adjacent plates of different polarity of said groups, by means of a switching element 16 which can be actuated via a control unit 17. This element and unit are mounted on the cover 11 of the container of the battery, in an external enclosure 13 which is closed and sealed by means of the corresponding cover, said element and unit being supplied from the current take-up terminals 7 by means of internal connections 15.
