Abstract
Optical system for checking the sealing of metal containers.Applicable to metal containers of the can or tin type (1), the system uses a single camera (2), of medium resolution, whose optical axis (3) is at one time coincident with the geometrical axis of the can (1). Combined with the said chamber (2), a reflecting ring (5) of considerably greater diameter than the can (1) is placed around it and with a reflecting surface (6) of suitable inclination, while around that is another illumination ring (7), of slightly greater diameter, with a circumferential row of LEDs (8) which illuminate the sealing edge of the lid (4) of the can (1) so that the illumination of the said sealing edge and the area close to it is uniform and all points outside this edge are at the same focal distance from the camera (2) which enables defects such as crimping faults on the sealing edge, metal residue on it or holes or breakages of the lid to be detected.
