Abstract
In the case of the present process, the gases to be drawn off during the smelting of readily smeltable metal, such as for example lead, are not drawn off directly from the space above the smelt but via a closure device which is located in the upper part of the smelting space above the smelt. This closure device is designed in such a way that it does not seal tightly during the smelting operation, so that there is constantly an air stream, if only slight, to the drawing-off apparatus. The closure may be designed as a door, swing door, double door or airlock. In any event, a gas duct leads from the drawing-off apparatus into the space which is arranged behind the non-tightly sealing door on the side facing away from the smelting space. The metal is preferably introduced into the smelting space likewise via the non-tightly sealing closure, which according to the invention has to be closed when the metal drops into the smelt. <IMAGE>
