Abstract

Unlined screw cap for carbonated beverage recipients, which has a hermetically sealed nerve (6) consisting of a first part (7) and a second part (8). The two parts (7) and (8) are joined in an area (13) that includes a formation that weakens the join in order to allow the coherent folding action of the second part (8) in relation to the first part (7) when screwing the lid (1) on the corresponding recipient.< IMAGE >The closure (1) for a container has an externally screw threaded neck (9) and is moulded in one piece from a resilient plastics material and comprises a top (4) and a depending skirt (2) which has on its internal surface a complementary screw thread (3) with an annular sealing rib (6) projecting from the top. The rib has a cylindrical portion (7) contiguous with the top and lying adjacent to or abutting with the skirt and a second frusto conical portion (8) contiguous with the end of the cylindrical portion distal to the top and extending radially inwardly to terminate in a circular free edge. The internal diameter of the first cylindrical portion is equal to or slightly larger than the external diameter of the neck (9) of the container such that during threaded engagement of the closure a air-tight seal is formed between neck container and closure.
