Rotary oven for the degreasing of metal shavings; which comprises a cylindrical casing substantially in a horizontal position, which carries an inlet end and a discharge end for the material to be treated, elements being provided for effecting the rotation of the casing that is slightly inclined downward, that is from the end of charge to the discharge end, being provided with devices for loading the metal scrap by the loading end and its discharge by the discharge end, a burner being mounted inside the housing, the exit holes of which extend throughout the the length of the housing, there being provided elements that control the supply of fuel and air to the burner to such an extent that no excess air is supplied to the housing thereby exposing the waste metal to pyrolysis in a lean atmosphere.
