Abstract
The present invention relates to a lid for glass bottles, preferably made of metal or any other type of suitable plastic material, comprising a body (1) with a skirt or external flange (2) that is segmented by conical slits, characterised in that said flange (2) comprises a plurality of longitudinal conical slits transverse to the axis of the lid and running around the periphery of the flange (2), designed to snugly fit over the external surface of the lip (4) of the neck (3) of the bottle to be sealed; the body (1) having been provided with a concentric V-shaped annular rib (5) which snugly fits against the internal contour of the mouth of the neck (3) of the bottle, which has a liner (7), said rib (5) defining an upwardly domed surface (6).
Description
- The main object of the invention is a lid for glass bottles, preferably made of metal or any other type of suitable plastic material; it has the particularity of having a V-shaped rib which snugly fits against the internal contour of the mouth of the neck of a bottle, and which in turn has an upwardly domed surface on which pressure is exerted to facilitate the opening of said lid.
- Currently there is a large variety of lids and/or caps for glass bottles which are preferably used to contain liquid refreshment beverages and the like.
- Among the most common caps providing the best results for hermetic closure are those referred to as "crown" caps, which are usually made of sheet metal and are adapted to the external contour of the lip corresponding to the mouth of the bottle, which adaptation is done by means of folds made on the lid itself when it is applied on the lip or mouth of the bottle.
- "Crown" caps of this type require a tool or opener for removing the cap from the bottle, since manual handling which allows the opening cannot be carried out due precisely to the folds which wrap around the lower side part of the lip corresponding to the mouth of the bottle.
- There are also caps or lids which are coupled by threading on the neck of the bottle, which evidently requires forming a thread in the cap or lid and another thread in the mouth of the bottle or neck thereof.
- There are also caps or lids which are coupled to the neck of the bottle and are retained and fixed to said mouth through a ring, the ring needing to be pulled to open it, which is not easy and in most cases also needs a suitable tool.
- A lid for glass bottles which facilitates the opening thereof in the simplest way possible is therefore desirable, having been contrived as an improvement of the state of the art based on a body in the form of a crown cap without peripheral folds.
- To palliate the problems described above, the "lid for bottles" object of the present specification is presented, characterised in that it proposes a body in the form of a crown cap without peripheral folds, being provided with a concentric upwardly V-shaped annular rib, said V-shaped rib defining an upwardly domed circular surface which at one point will form means for being pressed on and opening the lid, with the particularity that it folds back a longitudinally segmented flange to facilitate opening.
- The body is coupled on the corresponding lip of the mouth of the bottle, adapting to the latter and being fixed and retained by the peripheral and external sector of the body with respect to the lid, while the hermetic closure is formed by the concentric annular rib itself provided with a liner which snugly fits against the internal contour of the mouth itself of the bottle, achieving perfect sealing thereof.
- The lid is thus perfectly sealed and secured, efficiently closing the bottle, such that said bottle can be opened by simply pressing on the upper surface, which leads to deforming the V-shaped rib, with the subsequent folding back of the external side flange that is longitudinally segmented by conical slits and positioned transversally to its axis, which will be separated from the lip of the mouth of the bottle, the lid thus being freed with respect to said bottle, said separation being facilitated by the slits of the rib.
- In a preferred practical embodiment, the lid will comprise a metal or plastic body of equivalent mechanical features.
- A series of drawings which aid to better understand the invention and which are expressly related to an embodiment of said invention presented as a non-limiting example thereof will be very briefly described below.
-
Figure 1 shows a view of a lid like that proposed in the present invention on the neck of a bottle in the closed position.Figure 1A depicts a cross-section of the lid proposed in the present invention. -
Figure 2 shows the lid ofFigure 1 in the open position.Figure 2A shows a cross-section of the lid proposed inFigure 1 in the open position. -
Figure 3 shows an isolated view of the lid proposed by the present invention, whereFigure 3A shows a detail of the conical slits of the flange. - As can be seen in the attached drawings, the lid of the invention is characterised in that it comprises a body (1) preferably made of metal, without discarding other types of materials with similar mechanical properties, such that said body (1) has a segmented skirt or peripheral flange (2) which is adapted in the assembly and closure of said lid on the neck (3) of the bottle over the lip (4) of the mouth of said neck (3) of the bottle, all based on the body (1) of the lid having a concentric upwardly open V-shaped annular rib (5), which rib defines an upwardly domed annular area (6), as depicted in
Figures 1 and2 . - The V-shaped rib (5) is located on the internal edge of the mouth of the neck (3), forming a sealed fit as a result of, on one hand, the skirt or lower flange (2) that is segmented by conical slits snugly fitting externally over the lip (4) of the neck of the bottle, and on the other hand, being provided with a liner (7), providing a sealing and in turn helping the opening of the bottle; the annular area (6) being upwardly domed.
- On the other hand, to open the bottle, i.e., freeing the body (1), the dome of the annular area (6) is pressed downwards as depicted in
Figure 2 , deforming the V-shaped rib (5) and causing the folding back thereof and the corresponding separation of the segmented skirt or external flange (2) of the body (1) of the lid, freeing it with respect to the neck (3) of the bottle. - Finally, it must be indicated that the slits of the flange (2) have a conical section, i.e., their width decreases from the lower part of the flange (2) towards the upper part of the flange (2) and attachment with the body (1).
Claims (2)
- A lid for glass bottles, preferably made of metal or any other type of suitable plastic material, comprising a body (1) with a skirt or external flange (2) that is segmented by conical slits, characterised in that said flange (2) comprises a plurality of longitudinal conical slits transverse to the axis of the lid and running around the periphery of the flange (2), designed to snugly fit over the external surface of the lip (4) of the neck (3) of the bottle to be sealed; the body (1) having been provided with a concentric V-shaped annular rib (5) which snugly fits against the internal contour of the mouth of the neck (3) of the bottle, which has a liner (7), said rib (5) defining an upwardly domed surface (6).
- The lid for glass bottles according to claim 1, characterised in that the conical slits have a width decreasing from the lower part of the flange (2) towards the upper part of said flange (2) and attachment with the body (1).
