Description
- The invention relates to a garden nozzle according to the preamble of claim 1. Accordingly, the present invention relates to a garden nozzle with a pattern switching button on the handle so as to change patterns of watering by one hand only.
- A garden nozzle according the preamble of claim 1 is disclosed in U.S. Patent Application Publication No.
US 2004/0227017 A1 . - In
US 6,230,988 B1 is disclosed a water nozzle capable of ejecting water in various forms, including a main body which is connected to a water discharge tube which is in turn connected with a head set provided to a water outlet and locating column to which a nozzle cover is fastened by a fastening bolt which nozzle cover is provided with a plurality of jet holes and to which a water distribution disk is fastened such that the through holes of the water distribution disk are corresponding in location to the jet holes of the nozzle cover. - In
US 6,622,945 B1 is disclosed a shower head structure which the user can operate by his one hand to switch and adjust the water flow, wherein the structure comprises a body, a front housing, a push button for switching and adjusting the water flow, a water guide member, a flow switch disk, a first water outlet panel, a second water outlet panel, and a third water outlet panel. - A conventional garden nozzle is disclosed in
Fig. 1 and generally includes abarrel 10 with ahandle 11 through which apath 111 is defined so as to be connected with a hose which is not shown. Arod 12 is movably extended into thebarrel 10 from a rear end of thebarrel 10 and alever 15 is connected to the rod so as to pull therod 12 backward. Acollar 13 is engaged with an opening of themain path 112 in thebarrel 10 and apattern member 14 is rotatably mounted to a front end of thebarrel 10. Apositioning device 16 including a bead and a spring is used to index the position of thepattern member 14 which further includes anoutlet 141 which is in communication with one of the pattern holes in thepattern member 14 and themain path 112. When pulling therod 12 backward by operating thelever 15, the front end of therod 12 is removed from thecollar 13 so as to allow water eject from theoutlet 141. It is an inherent shortcoming that the user has to hold thehandle 11 by one hand and rotate thepattern member 14 by the other hand. If the user rotates thepattern member 14 during watering, water stream hits the hand of the user and splashes the user. The present invention intends to provide a pattern switching button for rotate the pattern member and the button is located on the handle of the nozzle so that the user can operate the button by the hand holding the handle. - In accordance with the present invention is provided a garden nozzle characterized by the features in claim 1. Further embodiments of the invention are disclosed in the dependent claims.
- The present invention relates to garden nozzle which comprises a barrel and a handle is connected to the barrel. The handle includes a path which communicates with a pipe in the barrel. A trigger is pivotably connected to the handle and has a valve engaged with the path. A pattern switching button is movably connected to the handle. A pattern member is rotatably mounted to a front end of the barrel and a shaft has a first end fixed to the pattern member and a spiral groove is defined in an outer periphery of a shank of the shaft. A tube is movably mounted to the shank and a spring is biased between one end of the tube and an inside of the barrel. Two holes are defined through a wall of the tube and a first pawl and a second pawl are respectively and pivotably engaged with the two holes. The pattern switching button is connected to and moved with the tube.
- A sleeve is mounted to the shank and received in the tube. A ridge extends from an inner periphery of the sleeve and is movably engaged with the groove in the shank. Two recesses are defined in an outer periphery of the sleeve and the first and second pawls are engaged with the recesses respectively. The second pawl has a side wing extending outward therefrom which is pushed by a protrusion in the barrel to pivot the second pawl away from the recess when the tube is moved by pulling the pattern switching button.
- The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.

Fig. 7A is a top cross sectional view of the garden nozzle of the present invention, and -
Fig. 7B is a top cross sectional view of the garden nozzle of the present invention when the pattern switching member is pulled. - Referring to
Figs. 2 to 4 and7A , thegarden nozzle 20 of the present invention comprises abarrel 22 with apipe 221 located therein and ahandle 21 is connected to thebarrel 22. Apath 212 is defined through thehandle 21 and thepipe 221 is in communication with thepath 212 which is to be connected with a hose which is not shown. Atrigger 211 is pivotably connected to thehandle 21 and has a valve engaged with thepath 212 so as to control thepath 212 to allow water entering thepath 212. Apattern switching button 40 is movably connected to thehandle 21 and located above thetrigger 211. - A
pattern member 23 is rotatably mounted to a front end of thebarrel 22 and includes sixpattern outlets 231 defined therethrough. Ashaft 80 has afirst end 83 fixed to thepattern member 23 by ascrew 232 and aspiral groove 811 is defined in an outer periphery of ashank 81 of theshaft 80. Theshank 81 located in thebarrel 22 and agear 82 comprising six teeth as shown inFig. 6 is co-axially secured to theshank 81. Theshank 81 extends through adisk 90, acentral hole 71 in aframe 70, apassage 53 in asleeve 50 which is received in atube 30, and is rotatably received in a receivingportion 220 in thebarrel 22. Thedisk 90 is located beside thepattern member 23 and fixed to thebarrel 22 by extending several screws through holes in thedisk 90 and fixed to connection tubes in thebarrel 22. Theshaft 80 extends through acentral hole 92 in thedisk 90. Thedisk 90 has atubular portion 93 in which thepipe 221 in thebarrel 22 is received and sealed by aseal ring 24. Anannular recess 91 is defined the one side thereof so as that thegear 82 is rotatably received in theannular recess 91. Astop member 94 together with atorsion spring 95 are connected to thedisk 90 and thestop member 94 is engaged with one of the teeth of thegear 82. Thestop member 94 and the teeth of thegear 82 are shaped to have an inclined surface such that thegear 82 together with theshank 81 are allowed to be rotated in one direction. - The
tube 30 is movably mounted to theshank 81 and aspring 32 is mounted to theshank 81 and thereceiving portion 220, and biased between one end of thetube 30 and an inside of thebarrel 22. Twoholes 34 are defined through a wall of thetube 30 and afirst pawl 60 and asecond pawl 600 are respectively and pivotably engaged with the twoholes 34 at tworespective pivots 61 of the twopawls tube 30 includes alongitudinal extension 31 and thebarrel 22 includes a guidingportion 222 therein, thelongitudinal extension 31 movably inserted in the guidingportion 222. Thepattern switching button 40 includes twolugs 41 which are connected to thetube 30 and ascrew 42 extends through thepattern switching button 40 and fixed to thetube 30, such that when pulling thepattern switching button 40, thetube 30 moves backward therewith. - The
sleeve 50 is mounted to theshank 81 and located in thetube 30. Aridge 54 extends from an inner periphery of thesleeve 50 and is movably engaged with thegroove 811 in theshank 81. Tworecesses sleeve 50 and the first andsecond pawls projection 62 which is engaged with therecess 51/52 corresponding thereto. By this way, thesleeve 50 cannot rotate relative to thetube 30. Thesecond pawl 600 has aside wing 64 extending outward therefrom which may be pushed by aprotrusion 223 in thebarrel 22 to pivot thesecond pawl 600 away from therecess 52 when thetube 30 is moved backward as shown inFig. 7B . Thetube 30 further includes threeinsertions 35 extending from the other end thereof and theframe 70 includes twoengaging notches 73 with which the threeinsertions 35 are engaged. Afirst positioning spring 63 is biased between thefirst pawl 60 and a side extension plate of theframe 70, asecond positioning spring 630 is biased between theside wing 64 of thesecond pawl 600 and therear surface 72 of theframe 70. - As shown in
Figs. 5 and7B , when pulling thepattern switching button 40, thetube 30 and thesleeve 50 which are secured by the twopawls sleeve 50 rotates theshank 81 which drives thepattern member 23 to rotate 60 degrees which is the angle between two adjacent teeth of thegear 82. In other words, the user can operate thepattern switching button 40 by the hand holding thehandle 21. - When releasing the
pattern switching button 40, thespring 32 pushes thetube 30 together with thesleeve 50 forward and because theshaft 80 cannot rotate in opposite direction, thesleeve 50 and thetube 30 are rotated along theshaft 80 and back to their original position.
Claims (6)
- A garden nozzle (20) comprising:a barrel (22) with a pipe (221) located therein and a handle (21) connected to the barrel (22) and a path (212) defined through the handle (21), the pipe (221) connected with the path (212), a trigger (211) pivotably connected to the handle (21) and having a valve engaged with the path (212), a pattern member (23) rotatably mounted to a front end of the barrel (22), characterized bya pattern switching button (40) movably connected to the handle (21);a shaft (80) having a first end fixed to the pattern member (23) and a spiral groove (881) defined in an outer periphery of a shank (81) of the shaft (80), the shank (81) located in the barrel (22);a tube (30) movably mounted to the shank (81) and a spring (32) biased between one end of the tube (30) and an inside of the barrel (22), two holes (34) defined through a wall of the tube (30) and a first pawl (60) and a second pawl (600) respectively and pivotably engaged with the two holes (34), the pattern switching button (40) connected to the tube (30);a sleeve (50) mounted to the shank (81) and located in the tube (30), a ridge (54) extending from an inner periphery of the sleeve (50) and movably engaged with the groove (811) in the shank (81), two recesses (51, 52) defined in an outer periphery of the sleeve (50), and the first and second pawls (60, 600) engaged with the recesses (51, 52) respectively, the second pawl (600) having a side wing (64) extending outward therefrom which is pushed by a protrusion (223) in the barrel (22) to pivot the second pawl (600) away from the recess (52).
- The garden nozzle (20) as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a disk (90) located beside the pattern member (23) and having a tubular portion (93) in which the tube (30) in the barrel (22) is received, an annular recess (91) defined the one side thereof, a gear (82) co-axially secured to the shank (81) and rotatably received in the annular recess (91), a stop member (94) connected to the disk (90) and engaged with one of the teeth of the gear (82), the stop member (94) and the teeth of the gear (82) being shaped that the gear (82) together with the shank (81) are rotated in one direction.
- The garden nozzle (20) as claimed in claim 2, wherein the gear (82) includes six teeth.
- The garden nozzle (20) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the tube (30) includes insertions (35) extending from the other end thereof, a frame (70) mounted to the shank (81) and including two engaging notches (73) with which the insertions (35) are engaged, a first positioning spring (63) biased between the first pawl (60) and an extension plate of the frame (70), a second positioning spring (630) biased between the side wing (64)of the second pawl (600) and the frame (70).
- The garden nozzle (20) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the tube (30) includes a longitudinal extension (31) and the barrel (22) includes a guiding portion (222) therein, the longitudinal extension (31) movably inserted in the guiding portion (222).
- The garden nozzle (20) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pattern switching button (40) includes two lugs (41) which are connected to the tube (30).
